Fear Is An Advisor. Inspiration Gets The Final Say.

There’s a physiological reaction when inspiration hits. It’s the undeniable feeling of momentum and energy surging through the body. When you feel so hyped up and ready to go that you immediately rush into movement. Maybe it starts by pacing around your space and talking about it out loud, even just to yourself. Maybe you immediately crack open your laptop and get to work, or break out the trash bag to clean out the overstuffed closet you’ve been ignoring for months. It feels like a rush, electric, and the true definition of what it means to be alive.

What’s magical about this experience is that you forget to be afraid. You’re so focused on the inspiration and the momentum that fear can’t be heard over the winds of creation. It’s such a blessing. You get to be in joy, excitement, and hopefulness in its purest form. It’s a fire that burns bright and fierce, and it can’t be sustained forever. Eventually, it winds down, becoming embers.

You can always stoke the embers back to life, but often times they burn down to coal. Like an adrenaline rush, there can be a crash, but you have an opportunity for it to be a soft landing.

Often, this is the moment that fear clears its throat, ready to commune with you.

It’s going to speak its piece about anything and everything that is or could go wrong with your inspiration-induced art form. It will make you second-guess donating those jeans that haven’t fit you since college. It will ask you “important” questions, like:

Are you sure?

Why would you do that?

Who cares?

Who needs that?

When you ignore fear’s “important” questions and take action anyway, it will proceed to cast judgements, like:

Well, that was dumb.

You clearly weren’t thinking when you did that.

What a horrible idea, surely you can see you will fail.

You’re wasting money by getting rid of those perfectly good jeans.

You have choices when fear comes for a “heart-to-heart.”

You can listen to fear and take its opinions as fact. You can brush off its questions without considering that there may be a positive benefit to you in answering them affirmatively.

The worst thing you can do is let fear stop you or cause you to second-guess yourself.

Fear is a part of the human experience, meant to keep you safe. Though well-intended, its thinking is primal and outdated. It isn’t entirely unhelpful in that it can help you look at your art and actions from different angles, but those angles usually shouldn’t be reviewed as a reason to stop.

They should be reviewed as reasons to keep going, searching, and creating.

The spark of inspiration is divinely guided, a gift from whatever spiritual source you believe in, including the God-form you embody. It will unlock insights, open doors, and clear pathways that you can’t predict, but are usually exactly what you’ve needed.

Inspiration and intuition always get the final say. Fear is nothing more than an advisor or consultant, asking you to go deeper so you can strengthen your conviction.

You’re a powerful creator, and what inspires you is worth giving life and breath to.
